Pre-order details

StitchGrid is in active development. The concept, core features, and product direction are defined. We are finalising suppliers, materials, production details, and packaging before moving into manufacturing.

Estimated shipping: February 2027. This page is always updated with the latest timeline.

Why StitchGrid exists

Repair the clothes you love — beautifully.

Sashiko began centuries ago in Japan as a way to repair and reinforce worn clothing using repeated hand stitching patterns. Over time, these repairs became something more: beautiful symbols of protection, resilience, harmony, and longevity.

StitchGrid makes this traditional mending technique simple for modern makers.

  • No measuring grids.
  • No embroidery frames.
  • No complicated setup.
StitchGrid in use — hand-stitching an even, precise sashiko grid pattern

What StitchGrid does

Transform holes and wear into beautiful visible repairs.

BENEFITS

  • —Give worn clothes a longer life
  • —Transform holes into meaningful repairs
  • —Enjoy the calming rhythm of sashiko stitching

FEATURES

  • —Stamp a perfectly spaced grid in seconds
  • —Wash-away fabric ink for clean finished results
  • —Traditional patterns with symbolic meaning

Instead of hiding damage, sashiko celebrates repair — turning worn clothes into pieces worth keeping.

What makes it work

Repair the clothes you love — beautifully.

01

Perfect grids in seconds

Stamp washable stitching guides directly onto fabric.

02

Inspired by traditional sashiko

Use traditional Japanese stitching patterns to transform worn clothes into visible repairs.

03

No measuring or counting

Skip rulers, embroidery frames, and endless grid marking. Just stamp and stitch.

04

Turn wear into beauty

Transform holes and damaged fabric into visible stitched repairs.

05

A calming, mindful craft

Slow down, stitch by stitch, and turn repair into something meaningful and beautiful.

06

Extend the grid without losing precision

Line the Grid Guide up against your last stamp to keep the pattern going — perfectly even, even across a large repair.

The StitchGrid Grid Guide — line it up against your stamped grid to keep extending it evenly

How StitchGrid works

01

Patch the hole

Place a fabric patch behind the damaged area and secure it loosely with a few stitches.

02

Stamp the grid

Press the StitchGrid stamp onto the fabric to create a perfectly spaced washable dot grid. Line the Grid Guide up against the edge to keep stamping — the grid stays just as even and precise no matter how far you extend it.

03

Stitch your pattern

Follow the dots to sew the pattern you like from our guidebook over the repair.

04

Wash away the ink

Remove the temporary holding stitches and rinse the washable ink away with water.

See it done

A real mend, start to finish.

A torn pair of jeans, one stamp and a needle. The grid gives every stitch somewhere to go, and washes out when you are done.

This clip has sound.

In short: patch the hole, press the stamp to print an even dot grid, stitch your pattern along the dots, then rinse the grid away with water.

The real difference

Less measuring. More mending.

Traditional sashiko often requires rulers, measuring grids, careful spacing, and constant counting. StitchGrid removes the hardest part. The washable stamp creates a perfectly spaced guide instantly — so you can focus on the calming rhythm of stitching and the beauty of the repair itself.

The complete StitchGrid kit — stamp, Grid Guide, inks, threads, needle, scissors, and pattern guidebook

Size guide

How big is the grid?

One press leaves a square grid of 225 washable dots. Here it is at true proportions.

Dimension drawing: 15 × 15 dots, 4 mm apart, 1 mm each, a 56 × 56 mm grid, shown next to a US quarter at the same scale
  • 15 × 15 dots in every press
  • 4 mm (about 5/32 in) between dots, centre to centre. That is about 6 dots per inch.
  • 1 mm dot diameter
  • 56 × 56 mm (2.2 × 2.2 in) from the first dot to the last
  • Need more? Line the Grid Guide up against your last press and stamp again. The spacing stays the same across the whole repair.

The coin is a US quarter (24.3 mm), drawn to the same scale. The stamp’s outer size will be confirmed with the production sample.

Frequently asked questions

Is StitchGrid shipping now?+

No. StitchGrid is currently a pre-sale product in the sourcing stage. Estimated shipping is February 2027. This page is always updated with the latest timeline. When your order ships, you will receive a shipping confirmation with tracking.

How much is shipping, and where do you ship?+

We ship to most countries, and checkout shows the exact rate for your address. In the US, Canada, the UK and the EU, shipping is free when you order two kits, or one kit with two add-ons.

Can I change my shipping address?+

Yes. Email hello@better-objects.com with your order number and the new address any time before your order ships.

What does StitchGrid help with?+

StitchGrid helps you create perfectly spaced sashiko stitching guides directly on fabric.

How big is the grid, and how far apart are the dots?+

One press leaves a square grid of 15 × 15 dots. The dots are 4 mm (about 5/32 in) apart, centre to centre, and each dot is 1 mm across, so one press covers 56 × 56 mm (2.2 × 2.2 in). See the size guide above.

Can I stamp a grid larger than one press?+

Yes. Line the Grid Guide up against your last press and stamp again. The spacing stays the same, so the grid can cover a repair of any size.

Can I buy more ink pads and threads?+

Yes. After the campaign you can repurchase ink pads and threads individually.

Can I buy the stamp on its own?+

Not for this launch. StitchGrid is sold as a complete kit. We may offer the stamp on its own in the future.

Will there be other grid shapes?+

We're working on more grid shapes for the stamp, so more may come later. For this launch there is one square grid with 4 mm spacing.

Is the Exclusive Pattern Book the same as the guidebook in the kit?+

No. The kit comes with a guidebook of 30 sashiko patterns. The Exclusive Pattern Book adds 30 different patterns.

What is sashiko?+

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching technique originally used to repair and reinforce worn clothing. Over time it became a decorative art form.

Does the fabric ink wash away?+

Yes. The included fabric inks are temporary and designed to wash away with water after stitching.

Do I need embroidery experience?+

Not at all. StitchGrid was designed to make sashiko and visible mending approachable for beginners.

What fabrics does it work on?+

StitchGrid works best on woven fabrics like denim, cotton, canvas, and linen.

Can I use it for decorative stitching too?+

Absolutely. StitchGrid can be used both for visible mending and for adding decorative sashiko-inspired patterns.

What is the early-bird price?+

The early-bird pre-sale price is shown at the top of this page in your local currency — 38% below the expected retail price.

When does the early-bird price end?+

The early-bird price runs until production finishes and orders ship, currently expected in February 2027. After that, StitchGrid sells at its launch price (£79.00). If the timeline moves, this date moves with it. This page is always updated with the latest timeline.

Can I cancel my pre-order?+

Yes. You can cancel for a full refund any time before your order ships. Just email hello@better-objects.com. Once it has shipped, pre-orders can't be returned for a change of mind, except where the law gives you that right: customers in the EU, EEA and UK can withdraw within 14 days of receiving their order. Faulty or wrong items are always replaced or refunded.

What does 'Product stage: Sourcing' mean?+

It means the concept and product direction are defined, and we are finalising suppliers, components, production costs and timelines.

Will the final product change?+

Some final details may change during sourcing and manufacturing, including materials, packaging, or small usability improvements.

Has your team shipped crowdfunded products before?+
