Peak Dough
Delivery timeline
Why Peak Dough exists
Fermentation is the part nobody can see.
Temperature swings, starter activity, the specific rhythm of your culture — they all affect how your dough develops. And none of it is visible from the outside. You check the jar, you poke the dough, you guess.
The peak fermentation window — the 30–60 minutes when your dough is perfectly developed and ready to bake — comes and goes. Miss it and you overbake. Hit it early and the crumb is dense. Hit it right and you get the loaf that makes people ask for the recipe.
"I was guessing every single time. I'd stare at the jar and just... hope."
— Peak Dough Kickstarter backer
- No way to know if your starter is over- or under-active.
- No temperature control in a cold or warm kitchen.
- No alert when the dough has peaked.
Live fermentation data. In your pocket.
Peak Dough
Know exactly when your dough is ready.
What changes
- → No more missed windows. The 30–60 minute peak window is the hardest part of sourdough. Now you see it opening in real time.
- → Consistent results, not lucky ones. When you control the environment and get an alert at peak, the quality stops varying.
- → Bake on your schedule. The heater keeps fermentation in range. The app alerts you. You decide when to bake.
What makes it possible
- ✓ Sensor lid tracks temperature and rise in real time
- ✓ Smart heater adjusts automatically to the optimal fermentation range
- ✓ App delivers a push notification at peak fermentation — not an estimate
- ✓ One sensor works for both starter (jar) and final proof (bowl)
Most failed loaves aren't about technique. They're about timing. Peak Dough solves timing.
What's in Peak Dough
One system. Starter to oven.
01
Know what's happening inside
Temperature and rise tracked continuously — the variables that determine whether your fermentation runs fast, slow, or just right.
02
One lid. Jar to bowl.
One lid moves between the jar and bowl, tracking the full fermentation journey — from starter health to final proof readiness.
03
No cold kitchen excuses
The heater maintains optimal fermentation temperature automatically, adjusting to what's actually happening inside — not just the air around it.
04
Monitor from anywhere
Connects to your home WiFi so you can track fermentation from your phone — whether you're in the next room or out for the day.
05
Know the exact moment to bake
The app shows a live rise graph and sends a push notification when fermentation peaks — not a time estimate. The precise moment.
06
Always-on, zero maintenance
30+ days of battery life. Wireless charging. Set it up once and forget about it — the sensor runs in the background while you live your life.
How it works
01
Set up takes 2 minutes
Connect to WiFi, place the sensor lid on your jar or bowl. The app pairs automatically.
02
Monitor in real time
The app shows temperature and a live rise graph. The heater keeps your dough at the perfect fermentation temperature automatically — no babysitting, no cold kitchen excuses.
03
Get the alert
When fermentation peaks, the app notifies you. Not "check in 3 hours". The exact moment. Go about your day.
04
Bake with confidence
Score, load, bake. The guessing is gone. The bread is better. Every time.
One app. Full control.
The app controls the heat. The sensor reports back.
Most fermentation tools only watch. Peak Dough acts. The heated plate underneath your jar keeps fermentation locked in the target range — no more cold kitchens stalling your rise. Meanwhile, the sensor lid feeds live temperature and rise data straight to the app. You see the full picture: what the environment is, what the dough is doing, and exactly when it peaks.
The difference it makes
Your starter has its own rhythm.
Peak Dough learns it with you.
Good bread isn't about luck or experience. It's about information. When you know exactly what's happening inside your jar — the temperature history, how today's rise compares to last Tuesday's — you stop guessing and start baking consistently. That's what Peak Dough gives you.
Who bakes with Peak Dough
If any of these sound familiar, this is for you.
The inconsistent baker
"I've made brilliant loaves and complete disasters from the same recipe. I never know what changed." The variable was fermentation activity — invisible until now.
The improver
"I follow recipes exactly and still overproof." Every recipe says "until doubled" or "poke test". Neither tells you when your specific starter, in your specific kitchen, is actually ready.
The cold-kitchen baker
"My house runs at 17°C in winter. My dough takes forever and no recipe accounts for it." The heater keeps fermentation in its optimal range regardless of what your kitchen does.
The busy baker
"I can't babysit dough." You don't have to. Set it up, go about your day, and get a push notification at the exact moment — not "check in around 4 hours and hope".
Two vessels, one sensor
The full fermentation cycle, covered.
The Jar — Starter
Keep your starter healthy and predictable.
The jar lives on your counter. The sensor lid tracks fermentation activity around the clock — so you know when to feed, when to use it, and how your starter responds to temperature changes over time.
- ✓ Feed timing reminders
- ✓ Fermentation history
- ✓ Activity tracking across feedings
The Bowl — Proofing
Know the exact moment to bake.
Move the sensor lid to the bowl during final proof. The app shows a real-time rise graph and sends a push notification when the dough hits peak fermentation — the window when your loaf will be at its best.
- ✓ Real-time rise tracking
- ✓ Peak fermentation alert
- ✓ Heater keeps optimal temperature

Every piece, explained
What's in the box — and why
Six components. One system. Here's what each piece does.
Smart Sensor Lid
The brain of the system
Fits on both the jar and the bowl. Measures temperature and rise continuously and transmits live data to the app. Move it between vessels as you progress through your bake — one lid covers the whole process. Connects to your home WiFi so you can monitor from anywhere.
Starter Jar
for your starter
Borosilicate glass jar designed with a precision-fit rim for the sensor lid. Lives on your counter between bakes. The flat rim ensures the sensor's readings stay accurate — not possible with a generic jar.
Proofing Bowl
For your shaped dough
Move the sensor lid here once your dough is shaped and ready for final proof. The app switches to proofing mode and tracks the final rise in real time — alerting you the exact moment the dough peaks.
Smart Heater
Keeps fermentation on track
A low-profile heated plate that sits under your jar. Reads the sensor data and adjusts its output automatically to keep fermentation in the optimal range. Cold kitchen, hot kitchen — it doesn't matter anymore.
Wireless Charger
Zero-fuss charging
Charge the sensor lid without plugging anything in. With 30+ days of battery life you'll rarely need it — but when you do, just drop it on the pad.
Peak Dough App
Free — iOS & Android
The screen that ties everything together. Live fermentation graph, heater controls, push notifications at peak. No subscription — the app is free, forever. Requires iOS 14+ or Android 9+, and a 2.4GHz WiFi network for the Hub.
Final materials, dimensions, and small design details may be refined during manufacturing.

Pre-order details
Peak Dough is in the final stages of development. The product concept, core sensor technology, and overall direction have been defined, and the project is now moving through tooling and component sourcing ahead of manufacturing. This means the product is no longer at the idea stage; it is well-developed and approaching production.
Estimated shipping: March 2027. Every backer receives email updates at each stage — no silent waiting. This is a final-sale pre-order.
Frequently asked questions
When will it ship?
Estimated delivery is March 2027. We are currently in tooling and component sourcing. You will receive email updates at every major milestone — tooling completion, manufacturing start, and shipping.
Is this the same product as the Kickstarter?
Peak Dough expands on what was funded on Kickstarter. It adds the proofing bowl, the smart heater, the IoT hub, and the wireless charger — the full system, not just the jar and sensor lid.
Can I use my own bowls or jars?
No — the sensor lid is calibrated for Peak Dough vessels. The lid's fit and seal affect the accuracy of the temperature and rise readings, so it only works with the included jar and bowl.
Do I need the heater?
Not strictly. The sensor lid and app work without the heater. But if your kitchen runs cold (below 20°C / 68°F), the heater is what turns good bread into consistent bread by keeping fermentation in its optimal range automatically.
What's the difference between the jar and the bowl?
The jar is for your starter — it lives on your counter and you feed it regularly. The bowl is for final proofing of your shaped dough before baking. You move the single sensor lid between them at each stage of the bake.
Can I monitor both vessels at once?
Peak Dough includes one sensor lid — you move it between the jar and bowl. If you want to monitor both simultaneously, add a second sensor lid as an add-on ($79, save $30 on RRP).
Does the app require a subscription?
No. The Peak Dough app is free on iOS and Android — no subscription, no monthly fee, no feature gating. Everything works out of the box.
Can I cancel my pre-order?
Yes — you can cancel any time before shipping begins. Once your order has shipped, it cannot be cancelled or refunded. Email us at hello@better-objects.com to request a cancellation.
